Chris Thomas
I am captivated by the intersection of design and technology and the power of an interface to transform experiences. With 10 years of experience as a design leader, I have dedicated my career to creating innovative digital products that engage and empower both customers and brands.
My passion lies in the creative process, which I believe should be inclusive and deeply integrated to drive innovation beyond traditional boundaries.
As the son of a second-generation immigrant, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and a neurodiverse leader of diverse teams, I recognize the profound impact of designing for everyone. I believe that fostering inclusivity is the foundation of exceptional user experiences.
I can be ready to work in the United States in 6-8 weeks, including notice period.
Passions
Rapid iteration, high velocity idea-to-touchable mockups, understanding the why an idea succeeds or fails (I have a weakness for high-fidelity rapid iteration, but that’s because I enjoy the process.)
Storytelling - the why behind a design, sharing the nuance that connects great design and the user. Being able to tell the story of the design is invaluable in bringing developers on a journey that creates evangelists and inspires great products.
Meaningful animation - inexplicably too-often a negotiable but an incomparable tool for communicating state, change and emotion. I love the way that well executed transitions can take a user on a journey that makes an interface simple to understand.
Haptics and sounds matter - in a world where 99.983% of phones are on silent 24/7, iconic haptics can light up interfaces in delightful, expressive ways we’re only just scraping the surface of. I might be showing my age, but I think interface sounds can be delightful in the right context.
Less interface, more content. Not in the sense I’m a hyper-minimalist (though I do appreciate the value in asking why every feature should exist), but rather that the best interfaces step back and let the content be the focus for the user. There is space in design for curation, but not ego.
My (very pretty) UI should never look to outshine the user’s content.
Industrial design. My background in industrial design means I have a passion for well-crafted and considered products. I value honesty in materials and precision in manufacturing. There is a magic to products where object and interface become an organic whole.
